Jazz Heritage Festival

On Sunday, January 31st, MYSO Jazz Studies will host the Milwaukee Jazz Heritage Festival at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center (MYAC) in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood.  We would like to have a full audience as a part of this educationally rich, jazz-focused event! The event consists of:

• Live jazz combo performances by the talented young musicians in MYSO Jazz Studies
• Special guest artist, saxophonist Eric Morones (a Racine native now performing with the Brian Setzer Orchestra)
• Representatives from the music community like The Jazz Estate, Melk Music and food vendors like J.T. Bones Catering and The Fixx Coffee house will be on hand in the Commons.

MYSO's Jazz Heritage Festival is a wonderful way to showcase the rich jazz history of the Bronzeville neighborhood where MYAC is located.  Between 1900 and 1960, Bronzeville became a vibrant African American community, enlivened by night clubs, restaurants, and social centers focused on family and community-building.  And it was THE place for jazz in Milwaukee.

Schedule for Sunday, January 31:

2:00 p.m.-Performances by MYSO ensembles in two halls at MYAC.

4:00 p.m.-special guest artist Eric Morones presents master class with Bronzeville Jazz Quartet and performance by Mr. Morones, featuring MYSO Jazz Studies Faculty Combo

 

Tickets to the event are available:

$5 for students and seniors, and $8 for adults.  Tickets can be purchased in advance through the MYSO office or at the door on the day of the event.  If you have a group that would like to attend, we can assist you in ordering/purchasing tickets at a group discount (10 or more).
