Equipment Manager Kirsten Meier is a flautist and visual artist who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2020, with a major in new studio practice and a minor in art history. Kirsten is an alumna of MYSO and participated in the program for eight years, performing in a variety of orchestras and ensembles, including the 2015 Vienna and Budapest tour orchestra. In addition to working for MYSO, Kirsten is a visual artist with a focus in textiles and material culture. She currently works out of Var West Gallery and Studios in the Walker’s Point neighborhood. She has exhibited work at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Union Gallery, Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts, Var Gallery, Portrait Society Gallery, and the Haggerty Museum of Art, among others. In addition, she has participated as a docent in the Art Institute of Chicago’s “Jobs at Art Museums” program. Prior to working for MYSO, she interned for Milwaukee-based artist Anja Notanja. In 2019 Kirsten travelled to Miami to assist Notanja’s project, The Advice Tent, which was performed live at The Perez Art Museum in conjunction with O, Miami poetry festival.
