Helping Students Grow Through Music

Since 1956, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) has been nurturing, challenging, and inspiring young minds through music, profoundly changing lives and our community for the better. MYSO has grown from one orchestra and 30 students to become one of the largest youth orchestras in the country, and one of the most respected.

Symphony Orchestras

Symphony Orchestras

This grouping features three full size symphony orchestras, an advanced Chamber Orchestra, an intermediate string orchestra that is transformed into a full-size symphony orchestra in the spring with the addition of woodwind, brass and percussion players, and four regional elementary-to-middle school string orchestras.

This grouping consists of two wind ensembles (intermediate and advanced), two flute ensembles (intermediate and advanced), a percussion ensemble, an entry level strings orchestra, our Progressions strings program for City of Milwaukee 3rd and 4th graders, two steel pan ensembles and our jazz studies program.

Enrichment Programs

An abundance of opportunities is available for students and families to further their knowledge, skills, and experiences. Music theory, composition projects, and lectures on composers exercise your intellect and creativity. Concerto competitions, chamber ensemble programs, masterclasses and reading workshops polish your skills. International touring broadens horizons and creates vivid memories.

Your Support Means Everything

With your support, we are able to offer more than 40 ensembles and supplemental program options ranging from symphony and string orchestras, and jazz and steel pan bands, to music theory, composition, and international tours, providing quality musical experiences for a wide range of skill levels.
