PURSUE YOUR PASSION. JOIN MYSO.
The Largest After-School Youth Orchestra in the Country
Your MYSO audition is the first step you’ll take toward making music with many other wonderful musicians just like you. You’ll be inspired, challenged, and receive expert guidance from those who care about you and your musical development.
MYSO has been successful in providing in-person rehearsals and performances in 2020-21. Musicians rehearse in our home, the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, which has emphasized safety in adherence to national and local safety protocols, with a state-of-the-art ventilation system, high ceilings, and large spaces that allow us to conduct physically distanced in-person rehearsals.
In spring 2021, we are held our auditions for 2021-22 via online video submission. Several openings remain for fall 2021 in each program, orchestra, and ensemble. The most opportunities exist for
- elementary and middle school string players;
- middle school low brass and clarinets;
- viola, bass, bassoon, horn, and trumpet players at all levels.

All members are required to audition (some ensemble exceptions exist) in order to participate during the following season. Auditions are held in the spring for the following school year. Details are usually communicated in January.
In addition, each musician will audition for his or her conductor in order to determine section/chair placement and to make part assignments. These auditions typically occur in mid-to-late August. Requirements vary and are usually announced in July.

Additional opportunities for members of MYSO include the Davidson Chamber Ensemble Program, concerto competitions, music theory classes, John Downey Creation Project for young composers, our Community Concert Series, “side-by-side” rehearsal and coaching opportunities with professional musicians and much more.
