Great Job! Assignments for This Monday!

Good Afternoon, Senior Symphony.

Thanks to you and your families for helping this season get off to an amazing start.ย  You sound great, and the energy in the room is perfection–I am so proud of you. Thanks for everything and thanks especially for those concerts!

So, what can you do to help or care for your family members, friends, and teachersโ€ฆ.take 45 seconds to think about that and then act on it.ย  The more you give the more youโ€™ll feel great! : )

To businessโ€ฆwe need everyone to focus on the 1stย movement of the Brahms/Schoenberg.ย  The piece is over-scored, meaning thereโ€™s too much going on all at once, and so our challenge is to place each note precisely within the tempoโ€ฆwith a refined, in-tune, sound. ย At this time, we do not need to play quickly, so Iโ€™d like to rehearse that movement at Quarter Note= 86โ€ฆ.well under the printed tempo of 132.ย  The movement is 373 measures long, so it will take a long while to rehearse and refine.ย  Please prepared for this using patience, a metronome, tuner, and snacks.ย  You will need to do a few practice sessions on thisโ€ฆnot just one or two. Itโ€™s my expectation that you have already been doing soโ€ฆ and thatโ€™s why weโ€™re so good!

In addition, Iโ€™d like to read the 3rdย movement of Brahms. We will read this around a Quarter Note= 58.. under a target tempo of about 74ish. Windsโ€ฆ.please check out measure 618 and afterโ€ฆ.there are serpents and dragonsโ€ฆtake your time and then, in rehearsals, use your best listening skilss and empathy to line up the notes and rhythms with your section mates and other instruments.

And wow, is that Holst fun!ย  Please do whatโ€™s necessary in your tricky spots and weโ€™ll play this again, too.

On Monday. Letโ€™s do this:

A few of our friends will be here to coach and help us along.ย  Thanks to each of them!
