Dear Met Musician and Family,
As we both commented last night, we are so very proud of your performance at “Play Your Part” earlier this month!ย Our orchestra has taken an enormous step forward in coming together to bring our music to life.ย All aspects of our work together have grown substantially since our first rehearsal this season.ย It is so exciting to imagine how far we will go the rest of the year!ย Well done, Metropolitan musicians!
We had a good sight-reading session yesterday.ย Our new repertoire will obviously challenge everyone.ย This is exactly what we want!ย Thanks for catching what you were able to do for a first pass through the rep.ย Don’t panic!ย We will work together in rehearsal, in sectionals, and of course your individual work with your teacher will make it happen again.ย This is the learning process.
Of course, it starts with knowing how the music sounds.ย The best thing you can do this week is listen to these links with your music in front of you to jump start your understanding of this new repertoire. We are confident that you will grow to love this music with familiarity and developed skills.ย This will be fun!
- Da Falla, Three Dances from Theย Three Cornered Hat
- Tchaikovsky,ย Marche Slave
- Jarre,ย Lawrence of Arabia
Don’t forget to complete and return your rehearsal schedule commitment sheet next week (distributed in rehearsal).ย We will have a calendar version of this for you next week.ย ย
Have a great week!ย We can’t wait to dig into this new music!
