Dear Met Musician and Family,
We have three Monday rehearsals remaining before our Play Your Part performance!ย We could tell that the orchestra took a step forward following your sectional sessions last week.ย ย
Are you on track with your personal preparation on this repertoire?ย Please use the work you have been doing both in rehearsal and with your sectional clinician to polish up those passages you still don’t have in your fingers or ears.ย We couldn’t be more excited or positive about this repertoire, but we all know we aren’t quite ready for a public performance.ย The final few rehearsals are critically important, as we pull everything together for a memorable and meaningful performance on November 9.
Looking ahead, please remember our special Dress Rehearsal is onย Friday, November 8, 5:15-7:15 pm, at MYAC.ย Please arrive no later thanย 5:05 pmย for warm-up and settling in.ย This is a different day and time, so you might need to start planning your transportation so that you will be here.ย The concert is the next day,ย Saturday, November 9 at 1:50 pmย at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center in Brookfield (arrival at 1:05 pm).
Do you have yourย concert attireย ready to go?ย Be sure you know what the concert dress expectation is for Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
Use a tuner or tuner app to carefully check your intonation on specific notes or passages you know are challenging. This work is very important! Yes, it is painstakingly slow, but the payoff is huge!
We are still seeing some unmarked parts on music stands in rehearsal that don’t reflect cuts (i.e.,ย Phantom!),ย dynamic clarifications, bowing adjustments, or other notes we have asked you to make during the rehearsal process.ย It is your responsibility to maintain your music, so that the information you need to perform successfully is clearly indicated.ย If you have any questions about these, please speak with us before rehearsal or during break, or copy the markings from another musician in the section.ย That is why we expect all musicians to have a pencil fingertip handy during rehearsal!ย Using your pencil is as important as playing your instrument!
Have a great week!
