Philharmonia violinist and Progressions graduate Autumn Mays was awarded the national title of Outstanding American Miss Jr Teen 2018 on April 14. She had previously won the pageant’s National Talent title for her violin solos in 2016 and 2017.

Congrats to Senior Symphony Co-Concertmaster Julian Rhee who, as part of the Kairos String Quartet from the Music Institute of Chicago Academy, won first place of the junior strings division of the M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition on May 5. M-Prize is an international chamber arts competition based in Ann Arbor, at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. The group also received the Junior Division Gold Medal at the 45th Annual Fischoff Competition, the nation’s largest–and one of the most prestigious–chamber music competition, in Notre Dame, Indiana, on May 13.

Julian has also been named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, one of 20 in the U.S. He will be presented with a Presidential Scholar Medallion on June 24 in Washington, D.C., at a ceremony sponsored by the White House.
