Dear Senior Symphony Musicians,
I have some exciting news for you! I am very happy to invite you to perform in MYSO’s prestigious Chamber Orchestra. This outstanding ensemble performs throughout each season and is a gem of our program offered only to MYSO’s most advanced players. The orchestra’s role is to provide high-level experiences performing music by composers such as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as works with smaller instrumentation from the Baroque era to the present-day.
This orchestra’s size enables a more intimate environment, allowing us to get to know one another better in the process. We perform music which does not call for the large forces of a symphony orchestra, and it’s a bit different with one player assigned to each wind, brass, and timpani/percussion part.
Here are the season’s concert and rehearsal dates. Please take some time to consider this opportunity and let us know if you would like to participate. I will be choosing the season repertoire based on players’ interest and availability.
Please think about your availability to make the limited number of rehearsals we have for each concert. Given the size of the orchestra, we need everyone to be committed to the rehearsal and performance schedule, with minimal absences.
You’ll notice when looking at the dates that we don’t meet every week, and that rehearsals are on the shorter side. We typically rehearse Wednesdays, 4:15-6:30 pm. The first rehearsal for the Fall concert cycle will be Wednesday, September 11.
The fee to participate in this orchestra is $300, which allows you to participate in one, two, or all three concert cycles. Payment plan options are available and, if this fee is a barrier to your participation, financial assistance is available.
Register here.
If you have any questions about the orchestra or the rehearsal calendar, please feel free to reach out to me!
