
Alec Henry
Progressions Bass Instructor Alec Henry holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Butler University (studying under internationally renowned solo bassist and educator David Murray). He earned his master’s degree in music performance from the University of Oklahoma (studying under Dr. Anthony Stoops) where he also served as String Bass Graduate Assistant.
A multifaceted bassist and teacher, Alec is currently an instructor for the Community Partnerships program and Music Theory Department at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music (WCM) where he has taught since 2023. He maintains an active studio with the WCM teaching double bass, electric bass, and cello. He spent summers during his undergraduate years as an instructor at various youth music camps led by the Butler Community Arts School.
Alec specializes in the teaching and performance of 21st Century solo bass literature, Euro-classical music, and modern jazz compositions on both the upright and electric bass.
A MYSO alumnus, Alec performed in MYSO’s orchestras from 2009-2015. During that time he studied bass with Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra bassist Laura Snyder.
Alec enjoys staying involved with the string bass community by attending the biannual International Society of Bassists conventions as well as volunteering with the Richard Davis Foundation for Young Bassists in Madison, Wisconsin.
He has performed in various local orchestras throughout the Midwest, serving as principal bass in both the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis.
