Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) pays tribute at its annual Founders Concert featuring the acclaimed Senior Symphony performing โItalian Maestros and an American Queen,โ with works by Giuseppe Verdi, Pietro Mascagni, and Ottorino Respighi, including his Fountains of Rome, and the beautiful Symphony No. 3 by Florence Price (1887-1953), the first African American woman to have had a composition played by a major U.S. orchestra.
The Senior Symphony has long been recognized as one of the nationโs top youth music ensembles, hailed for artistic excellence both nationally and internationally. The groupโs 107 members are in grades 8-12. In July 2025, the orchestra will travel to Poland and the Czech Republic on a 10-day performance and cultural tour.
